Why didn't Wordsworth write about Tarn Hows, that most beautiful of Lakeland tarns? Simply because in his day it wasn't there. Now the tarn is known to all, but here's a new approach through the grounds of the man who, in 1865, made his own unique contribution to nature. Beatrix Potter, writing about the tourists who had recently discovered this gem of a tarn, wrote "A general habit of gramaphoning and wirelessing would be a great nuisance". However she need not have worried for, in spite of the large and busy car park, we've always found it quiet and peaceful on the tarnside walk.
