Toiling up Charles Lane just remember the quarrymen who made this 700ft climb each day whatever the weather. Men still work on these moors, researching air pollution and heather growth, but nowadays they come up in 4x4s or by helicopter. Mind you its surprising what children can do and Heather was as determined as a quarryman as, at the age of three and with her new trekking pole, she led us all up the climb to Cock Hill.
