843 High Wheeldon, Earl Sterndale

Rising in an unbroken grassy slope that merits a 50% gradient sign, High Wheeldon presents an obvious challenge. Fortunately there's an easy way round the side and from the summit there are wonderful views over Upper Dovedale. Then its downhill to the hamlet of Crowdecote which gets its name from Cruda, a Saxon landowner, and cot a shelter. A final climb up Hitter Hill gives yet more views before finishing the walk at the Quiet Woman, a traditional unspoilt village pub which once acted as post office.
