Spring had arrived at Styal when we did our walk. Primroses gleamed beneath a hedge, brilliant blue speedwell spread across a meadow, wood anemones and violets bloomed in the woodland while, beside the meandering River Bollin, we found golden kingcups and a mass of bluebells. But Styal is lovely at all times of the year and while a visit to Quarry Bank Mill is a must, now the garden is open as well.
