Potter Fell, an inviting name suggesting gentle fellwalks, is tougher than it looks. The start is steep, but put your head down and soon the angle eases while your reward comes with two pretty tarns on the lower slopes of Potter Fell. The heathery moorland beyond has a delightful wildness about it, while the craggy top of Brunt Knott is well worth that extra climb. The descent is at an easy angle using quiet lanes and ancient field paths to arrive back in Staveley much sooner than expected.
