"Blackwood Edge Road" it says on the map, but only a few sheep glanced around nervously as we crested the moor high above the Ripponden Valley. Then it was down again, past farms and manor houses dating back to the 1700s, to reach the shore of Ryburn Reservoir aglow in autumn colours.
