693 Lantern Pike from Rowarth

People don't leave Rowarth in a hurry for there's only a single track road. During the Industrial Revolution the village briefly boasted five pubs and five cotton mills, but this backwater never caught on big time and it's all the better for that. This is a back door approach to the pike as, leaving the village we headed off through woodland, then up past horses who looked surprised to see us and out onto the open hillside with no-one else in view. The heather covered summit is a super viewpoint as you look across to the long wild sweep of Kinder and perhaps plan a really tough day on the moors.
