Betwen Nantwich and Northwich lies the town of Middlewich. Now Middle is obvious, it is the town between the other two, but why "wich"? This is no reference to witches dancing round a fire, but refers to salt, a major industry in these parts and for a winter walk round a town you can't beat Middlewich. With three canals, three rivers and also the site of a Roman Fort what more could you want? We even saw a kingfisher.
