648 Kirkby Lonsdale

Tradition says that Kirkby Lonsdale's medieval bridge was built by the Devil so he could claim the first soul to cross. But an old lady threw a bun so her dog crossed first, causing the devil to burst into flames and disappear. The bridge is magnificent, while Ruskin described the view from Church Brow as "One of the loveliest in England".
