The first time we did this walk it was Christmas and as we came back into Castleton the surrounding hills had vanished into the dark while everywhere was tinsel and a blaze of coloured lights. It can be delightful then, but whatever the season it's a walk that is surprisingly quiet, getting you away in a moment from the crowds as you cross the fields to the neighbouring village of Hope. Then, after an easy return beside Peakshole Water, there's an afternoon tea to enjoy and a visit to the million pound Castleton Centre.
