638 Tarporley

"O for a beaker full of the warm south - With beaded bubbles winking at the brim, and purple-stain'ed mouth". The words of the poet John Keats came readily to mind as we gathered handfuls of autumn blackberries from the hedgerows at Tarporley, while in this attractive town there's many a hostelry for that beakerful afterwards. During Keats life the Shropshire Union Canal would only recently have opened but the Sandstone Trail, which makes easy work of the field paths, did not arrive for another 200 years.
