Floral displays greeted our arrival in Garstang and this attractive town with its historic buildings, ancient alleyways, ruined castle and fine river teemed with life. But on the footpaths cows looked up in surprise at our passing. Where was everybody? The answer was on the Lancaster Canal, where the sun shone on a colourful procession of cruisers and narrowboats.
