The rioters who destroyed Arkwright's Mill back in 1779 would be amazed that all the mills have gone. Bleaching, dyeing and mining once dominated the Yarrow Valley, but now it's a Country Park with lakes, riverside footpaths and flowery meadows. The wooded cloughs are full of garlic ramsons and bluebells in spring, while Lower Burgh meadows has cowslips and primroses as well as lots of butterflies.
