Audlem, the most southerly place in Cheshire, has a picturesque 18th century Buttercross, a grand church and ancient Grammar School, but above all it's known for the locks. Here Telford's fifteen locks carry the Shropshire Union Canal down onto the Cheshire plain and, if you choose a sunny summer weekend, the waterway will be bustling with activity.
