"Of course you can walk by the river" said the friendly farmer we met, "It's much nicer that way". The newly created path beside the Ribble led us past the Elizabethan Osbaldeston Hall to Oxendale Hall and through quiet countryside where the villages are still named after their Anglo Saxon creators Baldhere and Osbald.
