Cook's Study is an odd name for a hill. But on this rounded summit, west of Winscar Reservoir, the famous sculptor Sir Francis Chantry built a watchtower. Later Mr Cook hijacked the folly for his studies - hence the name. The tower alas is long gone, but the hill is still a splendid viewpoint.
LOCATION: Twenty miles east of Manchester
START: Winscar Reservoir car park. Turn off the A628, 4 miles beyond Crowden, signed Trans Pennine Trail.
