507 Brant Fell & School Knott

Brant is an old Cumbrian word for steep so it's no surprise to find yourself a bit out of puff on the ascent, but from the top there's one of the best views in Lakeland for a fell of such modest elevation. The nearby rocky knoll of School Knott has a birds-eye panorama of Windermere town, while its own little tarn, overlooked by a handful of conifers, mirrors the sky. It's well worth the effort, for within minutes you have climbed away from the tourist crowds of Bowness to sample the delights of the real Lakeland.
