Lyme Park has always been a special place for us and it's a favourite too for many Manchester folk. Few though make the ascent to Bow Stones, an excellent objective for a winter's day. Pools of sunlight dappled the Cheshire Plain and even Winter Hill gleamed golden, though the cloud above us remained obstinately grey. But gaining the ridge the view stretched over seven counties while on the horizon was the unmistakeable outline of the Welsh mountains.
