Angling is normally a peaceful occupation with not much happening hour after tranquil hour, but on the Shropshire Union Canal at Barbridge the morning's fishing competition was a buzz of activity. Not that we saw anyone actually catch anything, for every few minutes a holiday narrowboat chugged into view. One by one the rods were lifted from the water then, no sooner had fishing resumed, a walker appeared on the towpath. But everyone was very good natured and, no doubt, in the watery depths fish were rubbing their fins in glee.
