Blink and you could miss Taddington. The A6, which bypasses the village, is a stretch of dual carriageway so fast that sandtraps have been provided to stop runaway vehicles. Progress with our grandchildren was somewhat slower as we strolled along packhorse ways and old miners' tracks with frequent stops to look at the sheep and cows. The Queen's Arms provided a welcome break but, for three year old Heather, the highlight of the day was the village's slide and swings.
