Foster's Leap sounds more like a beer than a viewpoint in Bronte country. But the large boulders, high above Wycoller, were named in the 17th century after Foster Cunliffe who, in one mighty bound, cleared the 6ft gap separating them for a bet. Surely Foster, a relative of the owners of Wycoller Hall, celebrated afterwards with a pint, but perhaps he supped one first as well.
