417 Bolton-le-Sands

Looking at the map you wouldn't choose to do this walk, as smack in the middle are the words "Sewage Works". But it isn't there any more! Instead there are pink clumps of thrift growing on the saltmarsh and an RSPB Nature Reserve. Couple this with the Lancaster Canal and the olde-world charm of Bolton-le-Sands and you have all the ingredients for a pleasant afternoon. Still, someone hasn't quite forgotten the past, for a notice by the toilets proclaims "Every penny spent delivers maximum benefit to the North West".
