409 Fairy Steps

Do you remember how Winnie The Pooh got stuck down Rabbit's burrow because he was too fat after dinner to get out again? Well the moral is, when visiting Fairy Steps be sure and have your picnic at the top. This narrow cleft in the limestone cliff is fun for children and adults alike and, having struggled up, you look across the Kent estuary to the distant Lakeland Fells. Here among mossy woodland, limestone pavements and fern-cloaked glades is the perfect spot for "Just resting and thinking and humming to myself".
