370 Totley Moss

When Charlotte Bronte describes Jane Eyre alighting from her coach at Fox House, "the great moors behind and on each hand", she mentions four roads. A bit of literary licence you might think, seeing as there are only three. But actually she was right, for one of them has vanished. It was the Duke of Rutland up to his tricks again. To make Longshaw Lodge more private, he had one moved - no planning permission needed in those days!
