With its historic herd of Red Deer and stately mansion, Lyme Park is everyone's favourite. But though we've been there countless times, somehow we missed Elmerhurst Wood. The approach over the fields from Higher Poynton is delightful, then a path leads through the trees above a winding brook. Like most woodland this is at its best in Spring and, despite the crowds at the hall, we had it all to ourselves.
