Rushup Edge curls round the head of Edale like a protective arm, but with a northerly gale roaring through the trees there was little to shield us as we climbed towards Mam Nick. Up on the ridge the wind was at its worst and we staggered along like a couple of drunkards. Then suddenly the sun broke through and, as cloud shadows chased each other across the moor, we had a panorama stretching from the pastoral White Peak to the rocky ramparts of Kinder Scout.
