339 Winsford

Sitting above the salt meant being placed at table with the distinguished guests, which must make Winsford folk very grand for there are mountains of the stuff beside the River Weaver. This is the home of Britain's only Rocksalt Mine and the Whitegate Line was built to carry its salt. Now it's a quiet path through attractive countryside, and if you stop for a picnic, then you too will be sitting above the salt.
