Well dressing, when Tissington's six wells are smothered in flower petals, now marks Ascension Day, but it was the pagans who started it. After all Flower Power is a great idea for Christians as well as Celtic water worshipers. And the village, with its cottages, grand hall, and Norman church, beside a little brook, is the perfect setting. Then returning along the Tissington Trail, where once the embankments were burnt black by the trains, the cowslips and orchids are another festival of flowers.
