232 Sutton

Crossing the Macclesfield Canal at Sutton used to be a hazardous affair for the owner of Canalside Cottage, who used a raft of oil drums. Then British Waterways built a bridge. A footbridge open to walkers is good news, but no sooner had the canal been spanned than the bridge was demolished by a passing car! Now repaired with new, metal steps, the bridge links the towpath with Sutton Reservoir where, in winter, the sun sets in a blaze of orange across the water.
