Chinley was once a Mecca for ramblers, and weekends in the 1940s were so busy that a ten minute service was held on the railway platform every Sunday. It's a bit quieter these days, but the long ridge of Chinley Churn still has a magnetic appeal, rising above the town like a huge crested wave. Old gritstone quarries spill piles of tumbled stone down the hillside, while a deserted farm looks out towards Kinder. But be sure to chose a clear day for your walk, as the views are magnificent.
