127 Capesthorne

Pheasants clattered off into the undergrowth, and shy coots gave their sharp calls, as we scuffed through the saw-toothed leaves of the sweet chestnuts beside Redes Mere. This is Bromley-Davenport country, the Cheshire family which for centuries kept law and order in Macclesfield Forest, safeguarding the game and hunting rights. But the Redes Mere ducks are not the shy, retiring sort. They have trained passing motorists to arrive with a constant supply of food and if you haven't brought any they will be very disappointed.
