109 Jenkin Chapel

Looking out over the quiet valley of Todd Brook, on the edge of the Peak District, Jenkin Chapel stands alone. Yet when it was built, over 260 years ago, this was a busy thoroughfare, for the little gritstone building, with its plain whitewashed interior and tall box pews, lay on the medieval saltway from Macclesfield. Once ponies laden with salt crossed the brook at Saltersford, but now it is a backwater, and even on a Bank Holiday you won't meet many other walkers in this secluded corner of the Peak.
