While many people dash off to the mountains, Jeff Kent decided to set his sights on summits nearer home.  In 2012 he completed the ascent of every 1000ft hill in Staffordshire (there are 65 of them) and went on to publish a book describing them all.  Hills were considered separate if they rose by at least 50ft (the same criterion as The Mountains of England and Wales).  His book is available from Amazon.

His next objective was Cheshire, a county not noted for mountains (it hasn't any!), but it has some excellent hills, such as Shutlingsloe, The Cloud and Shining Tor.  He has now completed this task, making a total of 46 hills, and hopes to publish a book on them later this year.
