From the Glenridding pier which juts into Ullswater two nineteenth century steamers, fitted with diesel engines in the 1930s, cruise the 7 mile lake to Pooley Bridge and Howtown. The "Lady of the Lake" was launched in 1877 and "The Raven" was completed in 1889.
