Heaton Cooper Studio

When William Heaton Cooper died at the age of ninety two it seemed the end of an era. Visits to Grasmere would never be quite the same, for the artist and his distinctive watercolours of the Lake District have become inextricably linked with the village. But as we entered the studio late one afternoon, it was apparent that his passing was just a link in a chain that spanned the generations, for as well as the sculptures by Ophelia, his wife, there were paintings by his father, his son and even his granddaughter.

The passing of William may have been the end of an era, but it is certainly not the end of the dynasty, for the studio is as busy as ever while Grasmere still casts the spell which has shaped the lives of four generations of the Heaton Cooper family.
