Whinlatter Forest Visitor Centre

Whinlatter Forest Visitor Centre (gorse slope centre) is a good place for a rainy day where you can watch a film show, until hopefully the sun comes out again. An added attraction on our last visit was the badger sett; a larger than life replica where you stoop through an entrance to explore a badger's underground home. Children wandered in, only to emerge excitedly a few moments later from another entrance further away. Then mother appeared from the tunnel, "There's a badger!", she exclaimed, "There's a badger in there!" and indeed as you turn the corner in the dim light of the tunnel and come face to face on equal terms, it's difficult to resist a start of surprise on meeting the great black and white face. In the neat wooden buildings of the information centre there is a cafe, toilets, Forest Shop, Children's Adventure Playground and Trails, Exhibition, Mountain Bike Hire & Orienteering Courses.
