Mirehouse

Mirehouse has a beautiful setting between Skiddaw and Bassenthwaite Lake and the seventeenth century hall was built as a hunting lodge by the Earl of Derby. In 1802 the house was left to John Spedding of Armathwaite Hall who was at school in Hawkshead with Wordsworth. The house has further literary connections for John's youngest son James was a close friend of both Tennyson and Thomas Carlyle. Old Sawmill Tearoom, walled Bee Garden and Adventure playground.
