High on the moor by the dramatic scoop of Coombes Rocks stand the twin Saxon cross shafts of Robin Hood's Picking Rods. Once called the Maidenstones, legend says the name comes from when young men came here to pick their wives from a gathering of local girls - no women's lib in those days.
