High on the summit of Sponds Hill you look across Cheshire to the Welsh mountains, while to the south rises the strikingly sharp profile of Shutlingsloe. This is get away from it all country, yet in prehistoric times it was a trail that led all the way to Scotland.


LOCATION: Two miles west of Whaley Bridge

START: Kettleshulme. Turn off B5470 down Paddock Lane, opposite Bulls Head, roadside parking (Grid ref 987798)
