11 Aug 2004 From: david richards Burnhope Seat & surroundings Re Ross Lockley's gamekeeper problems on Burnhope Seat... it seems that the area around Middleton-in -Teesdale has become distinctly "anti-walker" in the last year or so, with parties being intimidated (but not shot, thank goodness!) on both sides of the valley (eg the approach to Mickle Fell via Silverband Shop). Perhaps the two big "private" estates in the area are gearing up to resist the CROW "open access" provisions? Anyone know the state of play to allow responsible walkers the freedom to enjoy this great area?
