Myrddyn Phillips Hill Names - Bwlch y Ddwyallt (Part 2) (continuation from Part 1). 'Gurelig Rocks' is his spelling, this name was told him by his father, and from his father's uncle and the local shepherds beforehand. Reference to the previously mentioned original O.S. map shows the name 'Cwm-gwr-helig' adjoined to the steep narrow valley. It could be deemed appropriate for this hill to take its name from its adjacent northern cliffs that in turn take theit name from the near cwm. Therefore 'Craig Gwr-helyg' could be deemed appropriate, translated this can mean 'Rock at the edge of the Willow woods'. Because of this areas profusion of peat groughs it is also known locally as the 'Moon Crater' or the 'Moon Country'. Take your pick for either 'Gwaun Cerrig Llwydion' or 'Craig Cwmoergwm' as an appropriate name for the 730m hill at SO041196. Thanks for showing interest A.T.
