Roy H. Various North Pennine observations. Long Man Hill and Round Hill now have neat summit cairns (not guilty!). It looks as if they were constructed by the same person(s) as they are almost identical. Cold Fell has a new(ish) fence between the 400m & 450m contour on the north side. There are usable access points which tie in with the route as published in the 'England' volume. The (landrover) track which rises more steeply above the RoW up Swindale Beck ends at Standards Fold. From here I only encountered one shell en-route to Little Fell. The 'figment of the imagination' RoW along Swarth Beck is a fairly well defined peaty path along the lower moorland edge. There is a rash of new grouse butts along said path, which may account for path's 'definition'. As an aside, the OS 25k map shows the RoW down Scordale as keeping to the left of the stream, whereas the 50k shows it switching from left to right, and back to left. |
