27 Oct 2006 From: Paul & Anne Brown Craig Cwrwgl (Pillar of Elidir) - ROPES? Bill's question on ropes. We included the Pillar in a walk over Elidir on Tuesday and as scramblers (not rock climbers these days) found a rope reassuring. Following David's suggested route, the clinb up the Rift is more like caving, really, and is not particularly exposed. Still, we'd recommend a rope for safety (and knowing how to use it!), partic on the descent. The gully section is not on rock but is steep and unpleasantly loose. Sorry to say we couldn't do any measurements, but anyway it's a grand "peak"!
